Instead of shaming the newer Kpop fans, I'm going to educate. Welcome to BoA. This woman has been doing this professionally since she was 13. BoA is 30, she will be 31 in November. She was discovered when she followed a friend to an SM Ent. audition at the age of 10/11. Her debut song is ID; Peace B and some many Korean classics that she is known for are: No.1, Atlantis Princess, My Name, Spark, Girls on Top, Moto, Garden in the Air, Hurricane Venus, Copy & Paste, Implode, Only One, The Shadow, and Shattered, among many others. Also, BoA debuted in Japan at the age of 14. Korea and Japan weren't in the best of relations (still isn't the greatest, but improving), however a Korean singer coming to Japan to be a huge hit in their language was so ambitious of SM and Avex. She later went onto become the first non-Japanese Asian singer to hit number one on Japanese charts, it was a big deal. This was one of the best songs released in the year it released in. I listened to it nonstop. I'm still surprised how underrated it was then, and now.

can you imagine? She's been on this road all alone since 13 yo. She's now like 30 yo or so. Plus, imagine coming to Japan alone, succeeded, and pretty much set the hallyu trend in Japan. She and DBSK (TVXQ) did but BoA is all alone. She deserves to be recognized worldwide!

Just think about it, some members couldn't dance without training for like many years and sings out of tune sometimes with that years of training. That's not what you call *TALENT* . There are many Kpop idols whose better than them hut still underrated. It's because ppl look at visuals now and how popupar they are.

To the new people here who don't know about BoA. BoA was only 12-13 when she debuted in 2000, making her the youngest soloist to debut in Korea of what I know. Prior her debut, had she been at a sm audition to support her older brother who was auditioning and got discovered there, where after she trained 2 years learning 3 other languages: English, Japanese and Chinese. Around 2007 was she debuting in the U.S with the song I eat you up, and tho it was a flop had she opened a way for other Korean singers, idols and actors. Since then has she released many albums in japan making her well like among the Japanese citizens and a album in Chinese. She has acted in international movies and was the mc of produce 101 s. 2 and been a judge for the first 2-3 seasons of kpop stars. She is also the one who has earned most money into SM's pocket so they could debut DB5K, Suju, Soshi, SHINee, F(X), EXO, Redvelvet and nct, even the entertainments flopping groups.. Many veteran fans and a lot of idols looks up to her because she has been in the industry for 17 years and still are going strong, being nicknamed the goddess of kpop

One thing that people seem to forget was HOW the Japanese market was opened up to KPop. As far as the Music goes, it was SME's "Project BoA". BoA was, as a trainee, taught Japanese, That's no big deal now, but back then NO ONE else had that training. She was the only one. Two years after she debuted in Korea, she was THE first Korean act to debut in Japan. I'm not talking just a Korean performing over there, I'm talking about debuting in the JPop system IN Japanese. That had never been done before. AND it was done without the advantages of social media that current generation groups enjoy. Her third studio album put her as the first non-Japanese performer to top the Oricon since before WW2. Think about that, since WW2 NO ONE who wasn't japanese topped their music charts... until BoA. Then TVXQ started promoting and... well they're monsters over there and that's another story. But BoA was the door that ALL KPop acts entered Japan through. She was also the first Korean idol to collaborate with an American pop act (it wasn't that great, but she shined as usual). SNSD, Wonder Girls, and I-don't-know-how-many-more girl groups have stated that she was the reason they became singers. And they themselves have gone on to inspire most of the current generation in the same way. People think that I'm exaggerating or just being a shameless fanboy (which I am, I don't deny it) when I say that KPop would not exist outside of Korea had it not been for BoA. Now she may not be doing stadium tours any more (yes, I said stadium TOUR) but she's still kickin ass. ;)

She is one of the greatest female soloist of first generation, But her greatness is definitely still hard to compare with others singer from 3rd even 2nd generation. Hyolyn, IU, Ailee or even Taeyeon are could be another example of the "greatest" korean singers, greatest is not about how high the note they can reach or just about singing skills or stage performance Its more than those stuff. But BoA is still on top of the list.

When you say that IU is the top of the list, that is an opinion and sure I respect that. However what Divo Galindra mentioned is about skills and not an opinion. Sorry no matter which female soloist there are out there, no one can be as holistic as BoA in all areas. BoA earned it. Not hating on IU but without BoA, nobody would give a shit about IU nor Kpop in general at all. BoA made people listen to Jpop who in turn listen to Kpop which also in turn create demand for the Kpop industry to produce idols and good songs. So I am going to repeat again, it is not about opinion but rather a comment on skills. You can like IU more than BoA but BoA's skills and career will forever be stronger. Just like how maybe you can like Ariana Grande, but her skills are not on par with Beyonce.

BoA is the reason why all the Kpop groups now are trying to debut in Japan. She was the first Kpop artist to enter the Japanese market and the only artist who has million sellers in Japan.

She's considered as a japanese idol same with TVXQ. She helped a lot with the relationship between SK and Japan thanks to her music too. A lot of rude 3rd generations groups fans needs to know her legacy and respect her.

Some people say "BoA? Who?" They think it's something to be proud of, but they don't know that BoA is the real queen of Kpop. I know there's more like S.E.S and FinkL but still, BoA was the one who paved the way for Kpop to enter Japan which was believed to be impossible then. She brought Kpop to western countries. She made Kpop known and irresistible. She did so much for Kpop and still does. Talent? Beauty? Goodness? She's a combination of everything. BoA is another word for greatness and perfection. Don't make fools out of yourselves by saying that BoA is "expired" because LEGENDS do not expire. And yeah, one thing people like BoA made a world called Kpop with their utmost dedication and compassion where the idols you adore can comfortably stand in. Whether it's a girl group or boy group. So be grateful. If it wasn't for the "old" artists, your idols would have been nothing. Respect the REAL legends. If you cannot see any good in them and be respective, keep quiet and say nothing. This goes for everyone. If you don't like some artist, it's okay. You have the right to like them or do otherwise. But you are NOT given the right to bash ANYONE. Today's Kpop fans are fighting for no reason and keep on being ridiculous. It was not like this some 3 to 4 years ago. If you're not interested in other artists just don't mind them and their fans. It's non of your business. It'd be way more productive then. Since the Queen BoA is back, it'd definitely get steamy between new girl group fans and BoA stans. So I'm just saying this in advance. However the conclusion is, RESPECT THE REAL QUEEN OF KPOP, BOA. THE REAL LEGEND.

Not to mention she tried her hand at English releases - that's how I found her, how I found K-Pop. Her single "Eat You Up", which was released in '08 and I found in '09, was my gateway into the world of K-Pop.

I completely agree with you! I actually came here from Taemin's new Japanese song and I thought of BoA(not comparing). It's amazing that this woman opened up a lot of doors for not only her company's juniors but the whole kpop industry who wants to make music in Japan. I worshipped BoA when she came out with her Japanese music and I didn't know she was Korean until I got into in Kpop a couple years ago. That's how good she is! As her fan for more than 10 years I have seen her accomplish many things and I have seen others try to follow her path but not get as far. I've only been a kpop fan for a couple of years but I have been a jpop fan for more than a decade. New generation fans wouldn't understand and sometimes they won't appreciate how our idols made a lot of opportunities for their idols but you can't blame them. I don't like that many kpop fans don't know who BoA is and what she did for the kpop industry but at the same time I am reassured. I remember that my idol is at a level that no one can touch!!

And don't forgot she was only 14 when she debuted in Korea and 16 when she debuted in Japan. She was all alone, without any family, being a soloist she didn't have other members to lean on. She truly is the queen of Kpop and I'm ready to fight any people who says otherwise.

At 30, she still looks as great as she did at 16. Her beauty is truly timeless, i'm sh00k!

Right? She has only continued to become more and more beautiful! She's had such a long career, starting at only 13. That much time in the business can sometimes cause you to age roughly. She's managed to keep her life stress free and continues to slay everyone and their faves.

Allison Miller not the reason but one of the - huge - reason.. especially in japan where she started her career (+) if you didn't know (if you know don't pay attention) : hallyu is a process that started a long time before it reaches the "west", it started with Asia, where she got really (really) big along with other legends, and then expended to the rest of the world

Allison Miller are you kidding me?? BoA was definitely one of the hugest influences. First she helped kpop be recognized in other Asian countries, which is a huge deal. She helped korean people be recognized so they can debut in other places like Japan or China. Secondly, she did move over to the U.S working with famous producers and thats how i came to know her and turn into such a kpop person. As a person who's a dancer when hearing the song Eat You Up and then listening to that whole english album of hers i was hooked. If it wasn't for her and Super Junior i promise i wouldnt have known about kpop or if i would have i would of been with those 3rd generation people who know kpop because of BTS or Twice. I swear if it wasnt for BoA i wouldnt have known such great groups like Kara, SNSD, DBSK and more

Actually if you google 'Queen of Kpop', BoA appears more than any other artist. There's very few singers I call "true performers" but like Michael Jackson, BoA is an actual performer. If SMTOWN were would remove their artists one by one she'd probably be the last person they'd even think of replacing. I've been listening and watching BoA my whole adult life and I turn 32 next month. Plus, she speaks, Korean, Japanese, and English (even if it's not as strong as the first too). I love her-she was the very first K-idol I ever liked next to S.E.S.

U are not alone . SM town is not as good as they used to be 20 yrs ago when major groups like SES made the kpop reaching out to the world arena! SES for me is the best female group while Boa is certainly the best spokesperson for Kpop so far

Definitely the queen, no, goddess of Kpop. The amount of talent that she has: the visuals, the voice, the dance skills puts her on the top. The fact that she can sing so effortlessly and smooth even with the complex choreo in her live performances is crazy. I agree there are some amazing singers out there but many of them can't dance like her and execute such clear singing at the same time. She paved the way for the idols we love today. She is a legend.

They dont promote her enough.. she used to be huge, but SM doesnt release enough to lure in the newer kpop fans. Just look at her, paved the way for female artists, gorgeous, good vocals, dances so well and basically the completely package. PROMOTE HER MORE SM
